Oscar de la Renta or Michael Kors are two who come to mind immediately. They do classic designs, sportswear focused on separates, and gorgeous dresses.
I actually even recognize Oscar de la Renta as a fashion designer's name. (I didn't realize what a gaping hole I had in my knowledge base until I started to type the sentence in question and had no frigging idea whose designs she'd wear.)
And she looked smashing in it, but I think Elizabeth goes for the middle of the road, rather than cutting edge, fashion. Maybe if she shows in some other scene with formal clothes...
I am not a fashionable person. I can dress appropriately but there aren't too many places in a small town in Northeast Tennessee where it matters. Here your clothes may be old or patched but they and your manners must be clean. Somehow I survive

I was raised to the credo: better to be wearing clean rags than something dirty, no matter how expensive. Here in NoCal, no one much gives a damn. It's your manners that matter - the most well dressed jerk is still a jerk. I only ever think about clothes if I have to head for the Bay Area and even there I can get by without dressing up up.
Of course. I must have a mental block or something. Ralph Lauren Polo. I should have thought of that if only because John's an eight goal polo player in this. Oh well, now I know what John's wearing. :) And Rodney is in his one, insanely expensive and how he resents the money it cost, Armani suit.
Isabel Toledo was Michelle Obama's designer in Chicago, and designed a bunch of her more smashing (I think) cocktail dresses and such - beautiful stuff, but a less well-known designer until Mrs. O came onto the scene. :-)

Then again, I'm a bit biased in her favor. Just a wee bit. If you define wee as being about the size of the Grand Canyon.
