Should have posted this here yesterday.
Atlantis Big Bang is live at Archive of Our Own. You need to go to the collection page to see the twenty-four stories together. You should
check out the art that has been created for the fiction too. It's really good stuff.
Unnatural Selection Rating: Mature
Warnings: Graphic descriptions of violence, rape/noncon (not graphic, mostly implied)
Words: 165218
Categories: F/M, M/M, Other
Relationships: Sheppard/Todd, Sheppard/McKay, Lorne/Larrin
Characters: John Sheppard, Rodney McKay, Todd, Evan Lorne, Larrin, Teyla Emmagan, Radek Zelenka, Ronon Dex, Dusty Mehra, Anne Teldy, Carolyn Lam, Carson Beckett, Aiden Ford, Svetlana Markov, Ladon Radim, Ba'al (clone), Elizabeth Weir, Camille Wray, Vanessa James, Matthew Scott, Sora Tyrus, numerous supporting characters gleaned from SGA, SG-1, and SGU.
Summary: Human error, operant conditioning, survival instinct and evolution as horror. An examination of the SGC's failure to anticipate and prevent the losses of Atlantis and the Alterran survey ship Destiny. One year after the first, the second Earth Expedition to Wraith-occupied Atlantis is diverted to an Ancient ship and struggles to survive with no way home and enemies within, while John Sheppard, considered a traitor by everyone who once knew him, tries to hold onto what humanity he has left and save them all.
So, obviously, very much an alternate universe from canon.
If you don't like commenting at AO3, there is always here at this post or my DW post.
Even if you aren't interested in the story, admire the great art by
mashimero ,
davincis_girl and
sian1359 .
mashimero 's
art for Unnatural Selection at AO3
Figures, poster, and the collage, every bit of it is fantastic. She notes the art is possibly spoilery, but I don't think it's any more so than my own summary. Just go admire and tell her it is beautiful work, because it is.
Then there is
davincis_girl .
Her John is beautiful. Her Rodney is amazing. She also offers a pretty damn good summary to the story.
And
sian1359 surprised me with extra art. Which is beautiful, no surprise; I always admire her artwork and the way it relates to and reflects the stories she gifts with it and this is to the same standard.
She highlights Lorne and Larrin to marvelous effect, I think, as well as Unnatural Selection's setting. The first mix is a soundtrack to the plot, the second one is instrumental and excellent mood music for reading it, distilled down from what I listened to as I wrote it. Both mixes are zipped at sendspace.

Usage analogs:
He/She: oae, eie, aae, eae [Eie couldn't be jealous of the oaee. Oae tolerated em deviances. Aae just wanted to do am job. Eae also took eale responsibilities seriously.]
Him/Her: om, em, im, am, aan, ean [He slept with em, but fucked om, on ean bed, then went and ate aas lunch right in front of aan.]
His/Her, possessive: oa, eis, ims, aas, aas, eale [Oa claws were sheathed in silver. Eis coat was leather. Ims quarters were next to the nursery. Aas tools weren't put away.]
His/Hers: oaes, eise, ase, aase, eaes (or completely neutral: ase) [That boat is oase. That paddle is eise. All the weapons are aase. All the wraith sleepers are eaes.]
Himself/Herself: omself, emself, enself, aaself, eanself.
Ase, like they, can mean any sex, but is singular. A human that couldn't see or smell the difference between an eiee and an ein or an oan or an a-in or a aa-in, might politely refer to them as ase.
