Demi knew she was the reason that her and Selena no longer talked, so she didn't need anyone to point that out to her. She also knew that Selena was aware they were never going to last, so she had some fault in it as well. Neither thought it would hurt this much, nor did they think of the ways it would affect either of them. Demi becoming so distant and her behaviour erratic, Selena throwing herself headfirst into her music. It worried their friends and families, but it was obvious the only people who could help the seventeen year olds were themselves.

Dallas had suggested locking them into a room, or handcuffing them together, but her ideas had been shot down in favor of letting the two work it out on their own. She loved Selena like a sister, and it was killing her to see the girls hurting insteal of taking a step towards making things better. "Do you remember what you told me?" Dallas asked, leaning against the doorframe to Demi's room.

"I've told you a lot of things," Demi replied, setting her guitar down.

"Do you remember what you told me that you and Selena said when you were fourteen?" she clarified.

Demi was thoughtful for a moment before answering, "no."

"You two made a pact that no matter how big you got, or however far apart you were, that as long as one of you hurt, so would the other one. That even if you weren't speaking, you would still be there for each other."

"How do you remember this and I don't?"

"Maybe because I am not ignoring every single thought of the person who knows you better than you know yourself. Demi, please just pick up the phone and call her."

Demi looked at Dallas, noting the firm set of her jaw, and knew she couldn't win. "What if she doesn't answer?"

"She will."

Dallas left the room as Demi held her phone in her hand, scrolling through until Selena's name was highlighted. Her heart began racing as it rang, connecting on the third ring.

"Hello?" God, her sleepy voice hasn't changed one bit, Demi thought.

"It's Demi. Selena, we need to talk."
