Heh. Admittedly, I am far removed from the XF universe these days. I can't remember the last time I watched or wanted to watch an entire episode. Yes, I have my many large boxes of expensive and varied memorabilia, cataloged and inventoried and stashed with care in my basement. The first movie was magic. The second movie was poorly done and over-rated. What a third attempt, after so many years will be, I hesitate to guess. Is it time to gather a pile of rotten tomatoes?
A third movie would be one thing. Probably not a very good thing. But, as the Pajiba essay says, a series re-boot would be a big ol' mess. Fortunately, I would also probably find it rather easy to ignore.
I think they're making this for the new, much younger fans who watched the show for the first time on Netflix, as well as for the fans who were kids when they watched it the first time and are now in their twenties. They seem pretty excited for the most part.
EDIT: that's assuming it gets past the talking about it stage and into the making it phase.
Oh but I'm sure it IS. I don't think they'd do it without them, especially since they both seem to want to do it, not to mention the fans would absolutely revolt if it wasn't Mulder and Scully.
a third movie, yeah - and of course it would be crazy to do that with other people. But the article is about a series re-boot, and they're both pretty busy with other stuff to take that on, though I can't imagine that's what Fox would have in mind anyway.

And that would be the really dangerous phase.
