Had the weirdest little 24 hour fever+aches thing Sunday/Monday. Legs felt like I had run a marathon and my temperature was a whopping 99.6 F

How many people do you think will really miss the drinking and dancing? Of the people who responded to the last post, I think it was just Jason.
Plenty of your friends have had more "traditional" weddings, so I don't think that many people will complain if it is more unusual.
If the wedding does end early, however, I think some sort of after-party would be fun. I wouldn't want it to stress you out though. Can you find a friend or bridesmaid to organize the location and leave it at that?
I'm sure most of my friends would be fine with the non-traditional, but I'm a bit more worried about our relatives, especially ones coming in from out of town. And then what do we do about the afterparty? Just friends? Just out-of-towners? Anyone who wants to, but then if all 125 people show up...
You could put the after-party on the invite itself. M and I are having a mehendi party the night before and that's on our rsvp, so that we know how many people are planning to show.
If you want the after-party to be by "invite only" you could do it through word of mouth...
My 2 cents? Be yourselves. If they don't like what you've planned, they probably won't show. If they care to show up and complain, then you probably don't really want to cater to them anyway :)
I mostly saw the wedding as a thing for our parents, since in their culture it's much more of a social standing thing. For the two of us (and his parents), it was more about the religious significance and the community aspect

Yeah, but with ~300, I had about 20 friends helping out in one way or another. Almost everything was volunteer during the service - everything from ushers to parking to our flowers (except the bouquets) to our assistants to our musicians... (although I have to admit, it really helps knowing a lot of really good musicians

I just had that 24 hour thing too, just got over it. Of course Mom and fdmts were flipping out and insist I go make sure I didn't have the pig plague. But apart from a little rattle in the chest I'm back to par right now.
I'm all for the non-traditional, more "you" kind of thing. It can be just as memorable. If we want drinking and dancing we can always go out for that afterwards, and I'll happily suggest candidate venues. :)
