Chris closed his eyes and turned his face up toward the warm sunlight. He breathed in deep and slowly let it out again, stretching his arms out above his head at the same time. Out here, there was nothing to worry about, no cameras, no questions, and no responsibilities. Here, out in a field he had found close to home, he was free to be himself with no one telling him what to do. Chris had found this place by accident, just driving around Portland one day when the stress of his job became too much to handle, and now, he frequented this spot more often than not, the best part being no one else seemed to know about this place.

Lying in the grass, trying to calm the storm brewing inside his head, he could feel the long grass tickle between his toes, scratching at his back and knotting his hair. Sure, everyone thought of him as the bull headed, short-tempered kind of guy, but it really wasn’t true, and only one other soul on the planet truly knew that.

A shadow feel over Chris’ face causing the man’s eyes to spring open in shock, hating having been caught off guard. His fears soon turned to confusion and then hope as he squinted past the halo of light surrounding the figure looming over him.

“Jay?” he asked hesitantly, not wanting to believe his own eyes.

The tall figure gracefully fell to his knees, bending his large form into practically nothing next to him.

“Hey, Chris,” Jared replied softly, a hand reaching out to push some of the hair off Chris’ face.

Chris sat up and turned so his body was facing Jared’s, “what are you doing here?” he asked; he thought filming had started for Jared already.

“I caught wind that a certain someone needed me, so I came. Filming can stand to wait an extra day or two,” Jared replied, almost as if reading his mind.

“How did you know?”

“Aldis called and said you were acting weird. I came right away,” Jared explained, carefully cupping the older man’s face. “What’s going on?” he asked.

“Nothing,” Chris mumbled, not wanting to admit that he really needed Jared.

Jared simply nodded before pulling the shorter man in towards him, smiling as he felt Chris melt against his chest, the tension escaping his body slowly.

“I’m here now; you can relax,” Jared whispered into Chris’ hair.

Chris squeezed his eyes shut and took in a deep breath. Letting it out slowly, he could feel Jared wrapping himself around his body, the two of them molding into one figure. “How did you know where I was?” Chris asked.

“I know you. You like open spaces, and there aren’t many of those around here, didn’t take that long to find you,” Jared said making it sound so simple.

“No one else would have found me,” he commented.

“You wouldn’t have wanted anyone else to find you,” Jared said.

“I love you, Jay,” Chris sighed into the crook of Jared’s neck.

“You, too.”

And that was all that had to be said. With Jared’s help, Chris found himself again and readied himself for another day in front of the cameras and stares. The life he had chosen wasn’t an easy one, but at least, he had Jared to make it bearable.

“How long you here for?” Chris asked.

“Tonight only, I head out tomorrow.”

“Tonight, I’ll show you how much I love you,” Chris smiled, looking into Jared’s hazel eyes smiling.

“I’m holding you to that,” Jared laughed, his whole body shaking causing Chris’ to as well.

The two men stayed in each other’s embrace until nothing else around them mattered, and the only thing they could feel was the grass beneath them.
