Employed! I is employed! Yaaay!

A member of the admin team is leaving the architecture firm where I worked before going to New Zealand is leaving. Long-ish story short, they've hired me to replace her and I'm starting on Monday. This all happened somewhat quickly, so I'm still reeling a bit, but it's good.

I was hoping to find a job in nonprofit or education. This is probably the only for-profit position I would take at this point. It pays, not well, but enough for me to hopefully eventually move out of my folks' house. There are benefits - not great, but health insurance so I will have coverage. More importantly, it's working with people I like in a physical space I like. And that is key. And I am SO relieved to have the search over with for now. In the words of a very nice rejection letter, there are "few activities that are more challenging on the spirit" All in all, I think this will be for the best.

I had some concerns about taking the job: A friend of my father is a partner in this firm (that's how I got my last job there), and I will be working more closely with him than I was before. I also feel like this is somewhat of a regression - going backwards. However, given how poor the job market looks, I think it would be foolish to refuse this opportunity. And at this point in my life, I think it is okay for working with good fun people in a good fun place to be enough reason to take a position.

In other news, my brother and I saw a sneak preview of Prince Caspian on Thursday (the day I accepted the job). We loved it! So awesome! I want to see it again when it's released. Exciting highlights: When the kids first arrive in Narnia they are on a beach. This was filmed on the Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand. I had recognized it in trailers, too - it's called Cathedral Cove, and I was swimming there in February! Also, I didn't know that Eddie Izzard does the voice of Reepicheep the mouse. That was awesome.
