Title: seven days of january
Author: Alisa
Format: POEM
Word Count: 182
Rating: T for implications
Summary: january is such a lonely month.
Author's Notes: I haven't written any poetry in a really long time, but I think this turned out pretty well. More Edward/Tanya, of course.

seven days of January

white

like the lace of her dress

like the color of her skin

like the feel of an Alaskan morning

(new).

Sunrise warms the mountains,

the earth; but

the snow glistens, white, cold,

unchanging;

and he sees her.

He sees her, pale skin

white lips forming black thoughts,

pushing, stretching, bending until

he breaks.

“Not now,” she says, but her hands

are under his shirt.

“Not ever,” she says, but her hands

have got a hold.

I’m not what you need,

she thinks,

and he wishes he knew better.

I can wait you out, he thinks,

(wants to say)

but the words are bitter on his tongue

and leave him colder than before.

But reason is pardoned,

banished in a flash of

white, shimmering, sunrise

light

and his eyes are dark

and her eyes are inviting.

The lace of her dress is stunning

against the white of her cold

cold

skin.

With a deep breath and a plunge:

He touches her gently

(hidden power);

a brush of fingertips

and they’ve already lost

what they never had,

in the fleeting touch of January.
