Title: yeah, chemistry!
Rating: PG
Word Count: 226
Chapter: 1 - it's easy to hit-and-miss when you're not aiming; part a - getting into the swing of it
Summary: A story as unique as every individual, and yet familiar with every one. A story of love and what never was. A story of love and what was. [part 1a/2]
Author's Notes: This has been a long time in the making. It's from personal experience, and from stories, and from my imagination. It's delicate and personal and I really enjoy it. I wasn't quite sure how to format it, though -- the chapters are made up of short stories. So I'm posting them one short story at a time.

yeah, chemistry!

one - it's easy to hit-and-miss when you're not aiming

getting into the swing of it

His hand is warm and rough and almost too big but not quite around yours. Five fingers, all perfectly aligned, have never felt so more at home in a hand before; they fit exactly, snuggly in the cove between thumb and fingers. And all the while (a comforting reminder at the back of your mind) his hand remains warm and rough and almost too big but just right.

Your fingers flex and his fingers flex and the thin sweat on your skin is only a reminder of the heat between you. Your hands mold together with each squeeze and swing and it’s lovely, sweet and lovely and a high school romance, if that was your thing (it’s not).

His thumb rubs gently over yours. You’re not quite sure when it started, but now it has and every nerve is suddenly alive with curiosity and overflowing affection. Suddenly your whole attention is given to his thumb, moving leisurely against yours, hot friction between skin, his warmth seeping into you.

You wonder, faintly, if he knows, if he’s aware, if he realizes it’s his thumb rubbing over yours like a girlfriend-guyfriend-we’re-the-real-deal-hand-holding-kissing-in-the-alcoves type of thing. You wonder if this gentle touch, this sweet little affection, is as subconscious, hardwired as breathing. You wonder if he knows he’s doing it.

You wonder if he likes that perfectly friendly intimacy too.
