Wake up

If they don't overturn Roe v Wade within the next 5 years, I'll eat my hat.

Watch this video. It's someone interviewing anti-choice protesters, asking the question "If you think abortion should be illegal, what do you think the punishment should be for women who have illegal abortions?"

Also, watch this one. I cannot even begin to describe how ( Read more... )

That made me sick to my stomach.

I really liked how that boneheaded senator kept emphasizing the words brutally raped, though. Methinks he has some masculinity issues?

This kind of thing always makes my eyes just pop out of my head, it's so crazy. But I think I need to get over that reaction, because this is reality now. These are the people in charge. Their voices are louder than ours right now. I just wish I knew what to do to make us louder.

Besides the obvious... I love it how, on the webpage of the first video, one of the replies was from a pro-lifer who said said: "I have this feeling that when a baby gets left in a dumpster, it’s symptomatic of a culture and circumstances that have left the mother feeling that it was the only thing to do."

Pop quiz: Outlawing abortion will likely:
A) Decrease the number of babies left in dumpsters
B) Increase the number of babies left in dumpsters

And what was up with Mr. Republican Senator saying that he would make an exception if the girl was (among other things) religious? He probably thinks that the atheist girl who is equally victimized is undeserving.

Where is my country? I hardly recognize it anymore.

The conditions under which he would make an exception are the scariest part of the whole thing. Like, if I were raped, I'd have to have the baby, because I'm neither pious nor a virgin. But if this imaginary, non-existent girl were "brutally raped" to the point where she might be fucked up for the rest of her life she could have one. The implication is not only that I'm not worthy of the abortion, but that because I'm "impure", a rape wouldn't have the potential to really damage me psychologically in any way.

Like I said, unbelievable. And these are the people making our laws. Do they really represent the majority in this country?

Not the last I heard, but then again, the majority is frighteningly apathetic, I think.

Hahaha, the only one who qualifies for an abortion is the Virgin Mary.

I don't think they represent the majority. I think the media is to blame for that impression. At least, I hope it's the media, because if not... I don't even want to think about it.
