There are forty dead so far, maybe that will climb to two hundred or so. There are rather more of us than that. Unfortunately, people dying at King's Cross is not without precedent. Our rail system kills enough of us without anyone trying to blow it up. Frankly, every city I've lived in has been blown up at some point. Birmingham had the pub bombings in the seventies, I still saw pro-I.R.A. flyers on lamp-posts in Digbeth and Selly Oak in the nineties. I couldn't navigate my way around Manchester when I returned for a graduation as Victoria Station and the Arndale Centre had been blown up. In 2001 the "Real I.R.A." demolished my bus-stop into work in Ealing. We're used to it. What Charles Clark thinks this gives him a mandate to do is was frightens me.
