I only recall Lon Chaney Jr. was upset over the job they did on his pop's HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME (haven't watched that yet). Movie buffs think critics today are harsh. Some of Hans Conreid's comments are devastating. For that matter, silents received even less respect in the 1930s and 1940s. The 1932 Universal short BOO! not only made light of NOSFERATU but it also mocked FRANKENSTEIN which was only recently released!
VCI, specialists in serials and westerns, released the available episodes. My copy...ahemm...my friend's copy came from the loco Borders.
My dim memory of BOO! is that it wasn't particularly insulting, any more than those Pete Smith shorts with recycled silent footage.
I've liked the VCI products I've seen, so I'll have to seek out Fractured Flickers...though I do recall their being somewhat controversial at the time, among movie fans.

I was just surprise the way Universal treated their current horror sensation in BOO! I'll have to watch again. I remember some Vitaphone short of the 1930s or 1940s was merciless with the silent dramas. Most recreations were also broadly drawn.
My late mother (b.1921) did not think films of her youth dated well ("We used say 'Gee, that was a swell movie.'")
