I had the thought that if Sherlock could fake such a dramatic death then Moriarty could have faked his suicide too - notice the headlines in the newspapers were all about Sherlock's suicide, nothing about a murder of the 'innocent' actor.... I've seen a theory that Sherlock actually jumped but landed in that conveniently placed truck with rubbish bags in the back which then drove off - and that Molly somehow arranged for a body to be placed to look like Sherlock - and that at least some of those people gathered round were there to deflect/distract john from looking too closely.
Good point about the headlines. Moriarty was rather willing to suddenly commit suicide, doesn't exactly fit with his character even if he was trying to spite John.
Totally agree about part of the crowad there to distract John, the people holding him back looked especially suspect, especially as he already said that he was a doctor - though he was half collapsing himself. Sherlock's repeated pleas for John to keep his eyes on Sherlock also suggests that something was going on the street below that he wanted John not to see.
The thought has occured that Moriarty didn't want Sherlock to die in the first place, only to disgrace him, given his contempt regarding 'ordinary people', and somehow IOU was linked to this - especially Sherlock muttering IOU in the lab, it seemed like he was on to something. Maybe I'm reading far too much into this. :?
