The Obama campaign posted a link today for supporters to send notes of welcome to Senator Biden. The cut text below is my note:
Dear Mr. Biden,
I have been a supporter of the Obama campaign since the early days of this year. As you pointed out in your speech today, Mr. Obama has a talent for bringing people together, building consensus among disparate parties to bring about positive change. He is about smart change, not change for its own sake.
Some will criticize him for picking someone from "the establishment" as his running mate. After all, you were elected to the US Senate when you were my age! But smart change is not striking out into the unknown without a thought to history. Smart change is made by considering the voices of those who were there to see what has worked and what has not. I have no doubt that you will embody those voices in an exemplary fashion as our vice president.
I was particularly touched when you mentioned Mr. Obama's reaction to the conditions at Walter Reed, expressing your same heart for the care our country ought to show for our wounded soldiers and the health of our veterans. Everyday I am doing my utmost to give them their due, practicing medicine as a physician assistant in cardiothoracic surgery at the Wm. S. Middleton Memorial VA Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. Even as our team restores hearts to health and puts new breath into our patients' lungs, we are counting on both of you to fulfill the hope in our hearts and breathe life back into our America that has been so cruelly choked by the policies of the Bush administration these past eight years. Together, yes we can!
Sincerely Yours,
Reid C. Bowers, MPAS, PA-C
