Just a thought. The main issue with paedophilia is the inability of a child to consent, because they're young and ignorant with, at best, a developing sexuality. Not to mention most of them can't fight you off, or call the police decisively ( Read more... )

Well, but you require more than intellectual maturity, you need emotional maturity and everything, and often really clever kids are barely adjusted nevermind well-adjusted, so I think that would only screw them up further and would be, therefore, quite bad.

I always found such age limits very arbitrary, age is not an accurate indicator of maturity or intelligence, as I'm sure we all can vouch for through our various traumatic episodes in life with stupid people ( ... )

What softplaces said! I guess the issue here is the concept of sexuality--a child is by definition pre-pubertal, and a pre-pubertal child will not have the same concept of sexuality as an adult? So it would be ethically unfair for an adult, who is aware of his/her own sexuality to have sexual exploits with a child who hasn't yet gone through the stage of er...biological sexual development? The inequality of sexual development between the two makes it exploitative on the part of the one who's more developed, no matter the mental capabilities? Stuff like that.
