Passing Application

Player name: Bitte / Raaj (hello mods on dw)

Character name: Aerith Gainsborough
Character fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Version: V1
Canon starting point: end of Crisis Core / weeks before original game
Timeline in Passing
Background: Beyond this road, running on far and long, must surely be something we can believe in.

Appearance: Physically age 22. She’s a little small at 5’3” with a slender build to match, but at least she didn’t miss out on feminine curves with those wide hips. Pink dresses are the most common thing to see her in. She wears jewelry, but nothing ornate (a hair ribbon, gold bangles, a black string necklace). Her footwear is practical, in case she needs to fight or run at a moment’s notice. She has light skin, free of blemishes, and is often smiling.

Abilities: → Self-trained with a quarterstaff.

→ As a Cetra, she can speak to her Planet. Her current and future (as she progresses through canon) abilities include:
→ Hearing the Planet, such as its cries and callings
→ Sensing deaths in her world as people re-enter the Lifestream
→ (Current) Partially healing a group as a desperation move
→ (Future) later desperation moves she will learn: healing to full health, temporarily protecting herself and allies from any damage, temporarily stopping enemies, empowering her allies' own desperation moves.
→ (Future) Communicating to others within dreams.

→ Because this roleplay is about dreams: she demonstrates the ability to control the "reality" of her lucid dreams (disappearing in a flash of light before reappearing, emerging from a spot opposite of where she hid, "falling" gently) and affect others' movements in a dream. The second will be done only with permission. She should not be able to affect strong-minded characters.

→ Can equip materia like any other person from her world, though she is more proficient as a Cetra. They provide a wide variety of magic, though it's limited by what she can equip (and what is available at her point in canon). This is very unlikely to factor into dreams and should only be relevant in real world interactions.

Personality: "Someday we'll look back at these hard times and laugh."

Optimism and kindness are Aerith's defining traits. Throughout her life, Aerith endures seven years of captivity and fifteen more of being tracked, four years of writing to a lost love without knowing why he disappeared, multiple kidnapping attempts, even her sudden murder; at the end of everything, she is still smiling and encouraging others to endure until they find their happiness. Though this extends to nearly all without reservation, she is shown having a particular soft spot for and ease with children; there are two who plan to tend to her beloved flowers for her when she's away.

Of course, both her optimism and kindness aren't flawless. Aerith has lived a genuinely hard life, and part of how she deals with it is lying those problems away. She hid her Cetra heritage from her boyfriend and adoptive mother because she desired to be "normal", and after Zack's death she'll lie about the nature of their relationship and her feelings for him to smother her grief. When confronted with something unexpected, she may run away and refuse to show her face until she can fake a smile, as she will later do when the group happens to run into Zack's parents: she walks out of the house abruptly and stays turned away in a corner before Cloud finds her, then tells him she really doesn't mind about not hearing from Zack. However, though she'll lie to others about his importance, she won't lie to herself, continuing to wear the pink dress and ribbon that came from him. It's not too different from how she keeps her dead mother's materia in her hair every day.

Her kindness is heartfelt, but Aerith sometimes make social slips that hurt feelings. Like Tifa, she'll take an interest in Cloud, and unlike Tifa, she is bolder about her interests. Though she reassures the other woman when they both meet that she and Cloud hardly know each other, she occasionally flirts right in front of her friend. She also angers Barret when she means to comfort him by sweeping the problem under the rug - he's in no mood for her fun and games. At one point, she talked about flowers while Zack was crying over a friend's death.

However, her caring nature still dominates over any awkwardness she causes. Tifa and Aerith will become fast friends in spite of any jealousy; she'll encourage Barret shortly after his outburst when he needs it; once she noticed Zack's misery, she quietly approached him from behind and embraced him comfortingly.

Despite her heritage, she is the most normal of the party when it comes to fighting technique; however, she is stubborn about not being sheltered from the action, claiming "I'm used to it". She does get scared, panicking at moments, but she stubbornly confronts those fears. She can even be reckless at times and will throw AVALANCHE for a loop when she furtively runs away to save the Planet as a Cetra -- because she has a deep trust for what the Planet tells her, even when it's hard to understand. But right now, her lack of knowledge about her ancestors has her confused and searching for answers about her identity. She'll even question how she and Sephiroth may be similar before finding out he's not a Cetra at all.

During the journey she'll take, she makes fun of Cloud trying to protect her: "Hey that's Cloud's line! '...It's too dangerous, I can't let you get involved...' blah, blah, blah..." Which also shows her playful and teasing side. Aerith has some mischief-maker in her, aided by the fact that she can come up with a bit of a yarn at moment's notice. ("You know, Mister. He always said that just once, he'd like to dress up as a girl.") She's often giggling and laughing. But when she's angry, she's angry, and she'll let people know right away. Again, kindness wins out, and those who have wronged her will find she's willing to forgive and forget.

P.S. She's crazy about her flowers.
