I missed the great opening Gala infront of Vienna's City hall Sept 1st as we had a rehearsal for the mass that we performed last Sunday, as we do every year since Haydn's employer started this tradition 200 years ago. We sang Hummel's mass in E-flat as this mass first performed exactly 200 years ago and again, the prince-family was pleased with ( Read more... )

I so much envy you. And I hope that she has a better evening than in Lucerne. She also looked ten years older than last October, which I can tell as I made a huge poster out of the pic Christian took, you remember, the one with you behind Renee and me.

Anyway, have fun

Has anyone heard Fleming's "Four last songs" from this years Gala concert at the Lucerne festival? I was a bit disappointed. She has already done it better. But most disappointed I was of the Konzertmaster of the festival orchester. They also broadcasted "Votans Abschieds aria" from last years Gala concert. Bryn Terfel sang. He was incredible. I loved it.

I find Fleming's performance that night was very uninteresting. Have you seen the second half of the gala concert?

She also looked so much older than in October 2003 when I saw her in NY.
No, they didn't broadcast the second half on ARTE. Instead they showed Bryn Terfel from the year before.
I agree to you. But it wasn't just her. The whole concert was lame, at least the part I saw.

Actually Arte did show the second half of the concert a week after. X_X
Urmana was pretty good IMO. Gambill was replaced by Treleavan who was OK. Pape was of course fantastic. ;-)

I didn't know that this was the second half of the same concert. I just saw the last few minutes unfortunately. And yes, Pape was fantastic. I'm so much looking forward to see him in Don Carlos at the Staatsoper.
