(thanks again
izmeina for the meme)
1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Quite a few things actually. I bought a guitar (not for me), simultaneously applied for two different colleges for the same term (no, I'm not planning to attend both), and I put chains on my car. Oh, and technically I'd never done any legal research before this year either.\
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Nope. My perennial new-year's resolution has been to finish moving in. Still hasn't happened. Probably won't happen this year either, so this year I'm making a different resolution - to get scholarships.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not exactly, but the Gingerbread House (restaurant in Oakland, CA) went belly-up, and Eartha Kitt passed away.
5. What countries did you visit?
Just the US of A... no passport at this time. Although I'm getting closer on that front as well - I got my documentation all set for my birth certificate revision.
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Financial security, but it's not gonna happen. How about a vampire game?
7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Well, other than November 4th - which will be a big deal for a whole lot of people - the only one that really comes to mind is June 3rd, 2008... the day I went back to school.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Deciding to go "whole hog" and apply to law school.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Actually I can't think of any worth noting, and that's definitely saying something. Not that I didn't have my share of f-ups... but nothing I would call a "failure".
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I had a cold that lasted more than a week, which is *very* rare for me.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
The *biggest* thing I bought this year was a second car - but the *best* was a Gibson SG Supreme Limited Edition bass (firemist finish) (for my nephew).
12. Where did most of your money go?
Truthfully... food, though my education was a close second. Expecting a change next year.
13. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Strangely, I got really excited about applying to law school ... even though the reality of "three more years of college" is still making my head hurt.
14. What song will always remind you of 2007?
"I'm Not Dead" by Pink.
15. Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or Sadder? Happier, I think.
Older or wiser? Most likely both.
Thinner or fatter? Actually about the same.
Richer or poorer? Poorer. MUCH poorer.
16. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Paper-gaming.
17. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Reality TV.
18. How will you be spending Christmas?
I spent the bulk of the day with my family in Lebanon - though I did drive home in the evening. (For readers not living in the PNW, we had 'snowmageddon' this year.)
19. Did you fall in love in 2008?
I fall in love every year... with the same person. Good thing I married her.
20. What was your favorite TV program?
Boston Legal - although this year the close second was Leverage.
21. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I'm not firmly convinced that I actually hate anyone at all.
22. What was the best book you read?
"From Dead to Worse" by Charlaine Harris.
23. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Uli John Roth.
24. What did you want and get?
A new laptop.
25. What did you want and not get?
A new laptop that can run Guild Wars adequately under Wine.
26. What was your favorite film of this year?
The Dark Knight (although Hancock was a close second). Shout-out for "Shoot em Up".
27. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 34 in 2008. We went out for dinner (Acadia - one of my favorite "celebrate" spots).
28. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I think getting the arrearages that are owed (to my friend, who borrowed from me to cover for their absence) would have eased my financial worries - and still would.
29. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
"Adult Education Student"
30. What kept you sane?
Buster.
31. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Still pretty much sold on Clive Owen.
32. What political issue stirred you the most?
I'm still on about equal protection for same-sex couples... and California's Prop h8 didn't make things better.
33. Who did you miss?
The top of the list would still have to be
pythos33.
34. Who was the best new person you met?
Warren.
35. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
Never get angry at a fact.
36. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
everything you know is wrong
black is white, up is down and short is long
and everything you thought was just so important doesn't matter
everything you know is wrong
just forget the words and sing along
all you need to understand is everything you know is wrong.
(Wierd Al Yankovic)
