I'm so sorry to hear about Newt's health. <<>>

It's not easy for either of you (my last kitty had renal failure a few years back and had to be euthanized). It's heartbreaking and I wish I could fix it for you! I think staying home for the cuddle was the best thing in the world!

Today was the last day that Newt felt any pain.

We had scheduled an abdominocentesis for today (a removal of the accumulated fluid in her abdomen, so as to decrease pressure and nausea) and an oncology consult tomorrow. But when we brought her in for the abdominocentesis, we learned that she wasn't filling up with fluid anymore. She was filling up with tumor.

We had kept her with us through the weekend thinking that with Monday's treatment she might bounce back enough for at least one more good day... but without that relief, we could not ask her to endure another night.

So instead we said our last goodbyes.

We have a candle burning in our ritual room - we showed it to her and told her it is her beacon, so that if she wishes to find her way back to us she can follow it. It will be burning until her remains come back to us.
