"and I will definately discipline my child...just not by spanking. If my kid is anything like me, it will not be whatsoever beneficial or effective to spank him or her. You have to know your child and what is best for her. My job as a parent is to love my child like Christ loves me, and one of the ways I can demonstrate that is by disciplining without force

milk,
i understand what you are saying, really. i know that will's parents spanked him properly, the way yours did, and he appreciates it. i also know that tim's parents never spanked him, and it worked out equally well. all of your parents are awesome and i respect them.
but i guess i agree with what jecca has to say in #2: if you don't need to spank to discipline, then why do it? i have wanted to spank many devilish children over the years working with the y and at the shelter, but have always had equally viable and effective options for disciplining that didn't require force. like jeck says, why even tempt ourselves with that power? only a handful of parents understand how to do it without creating fear. my parents didn't, and just like jecca said i feared them instead of respected them. all arguments aside, the number one reason i will probably never spank is just because i absolutely hated it growing up, and it was never a "learning" experience. oh well.
Since evolving from the fish species man has been obsessed with spanking each other. Notice monkeys rarely spank each other and discipline young through a combination of neglect and starvation. Spanking actually evolved from putting out pants fires from the first human/fishperson liars. This is also where the saying "hey fishlips, you're a liar liar whose pants are on fire, and I will now spank you" came from.
My mom always did the spanking in my family. My mother said my dad was too gentle. She actually used a cutting board as a paddle. No joke. As for my own kids, I spank them. Final thought: If women would stop asking to be spanked then we wouldn't need to discipline my kids. It's the fault of the media perverts.

i think it is OK to spank an adult. especially if you are angry. they seem to like it more.
