I believe the children are our future . . .

So I apparently lied a few weeks ago, when I complained that my autumn volunteer activities had gone down the crapper. Rather, it seems, some of them were just postponed. So on Wednesday, I get a message from the coordinator of the monthly "reading to kids" program in which I participate, wanting to know if I'll be able to make it on Thursday. ( Read more... )

How come you never read me stories? (I'll even let you sit in a tiny seat.)

So you'd still be sitting on something tiny.

Crazy teacher. I think the first line of business would have been for her to introduce herself to you and get your name and why you were in the classroom.

I have been volunteering at the local Head Start. Once a week, I go in after I get off work and do things for the teacher - cut out things, make copies, and help get items organized for each lesson they teach. I have recently decided that I could go in once a month on one of my days off and actually volunteer in the room when the little people are there. I am looking forward to my first time on December 12th.

What I can't figure out is who she thought this lady was who walked in with a stack of children's books and sat down in her classroom! Do people she's never seen before normally come in and hang out in tiny, tiny chairs?

Was she high? Sounds like she was high. Sheesh.

AND they haven't done a background check on you yet?

WHEEEEE!

Although, once they get their act together, it sounds like this volunteer project is going to be a lot of fun!

Oh, I don't think they'll ever get their act together. Wasn't together last year or, really, the year before (when I was not a volunteer myself but, because I helped coordinate student volunteers from the university where I worked at the time, I got invited to a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon that consisted of (absolutely nothing besides) spaghetti w/ meat sauce, fried fish, and bread, which they ran out of before everyone was served ( ... )
