Who Killed Albus Dumbledore?

I've now re-read this book, and have used over 100 'post-it' type tape flags to mark errors. And I believe I promised people that there would be pictures, so lo! Here Be Pictures.

First, a shot of the outside of the book, showing the myriad flags inserted. There's no colour scheme involved - what I had available at first were in several different ( Read more... )

Good Grief! That is horrifying. Why do post-its make it all seem more real?

I've seen a surprising number of supposedly beta-ed fics lately with dreadful spelling and grammar errors in them. It worries me.

Yikes! That's awful. It doesn't say much for the authors, either, who wouldn't be making at least some of the errors (like the misspelling of Madam Rosmerta's name) if they were more familiar with the source material.

On another note entire, any insights into the books? M.

I tried the spell-checker but all it said was: "Insufficient Bat's Blood." aunty_marion May 15 2007, 15:03:10 UTC
Yes, some intriguing speculations and theories - worth buying the book for. If only it weren't for the typos...

It's obvious (at least to me) that several of the misspellings of names - e.g. 'Rosemerta' and 'Quirrelll' - are due to a computer spellchecker having been used somewhat indiscriminately, and without a human brain backing it up. Alas. I think the authors do know their stuff, it's just been poorly edited.

I'm always embarrassed my comments to you have so many typos.

I shall look for it at the library, then! (The academic in me wants to be properly read up before the final book.) Maggie

I've had no response from the publishers to my email

It may well have vanished into a spam trap, might be worth writing an actual letter.

I doubt it, I used the email their site gives for 'comments' and cc-ed it to the editor(s) as well, whose email addresses were also given.

That really is a shame about the book, and I would agree that an actual letter might be in order, but it might all be academic in a couple of months. Besides, Snape finished him off, although I believe he was well on his way. ;)

Yes, it'll all be academic soon enough; but I did offer to proof any further similar stuff they put out as well.

Of course Snape finished him off; the speculation is all as to the whys and wherefores!

I like Langfords ideas on why Dumbledore had to die by Snapes hand in The End Of Harry Potter?.

He knew he wouldn't recover from the potion he drank in the cavern and Snape kiling him would put him right in with Voldemorts inner circle thus making him a perfect inside agent for the Order of the Phoenix when it comes to the final battle.

I think that's the general consensus, yes. Not just the potion, but the withered hand from destroying the ring Horcrux, too. The 'stoppered death' theory is all about that - that Snape stoppered (i.e. delayed) DD's death (from the ring) with potions, but couldn't stop it entirely. The potion just hastened it. Snape's argument with DD (overheard by Hagrid) was about exactly when S would have to do the deed; the 'Please' on the Astronomy tower was DD signalling that Now would be a good time.

Though there are other theories in the book!

Holy SHIT. That's worse than the queries I got from my journal editor!

*grin* I can overlook one or two errors per book - but one or two per page, almost? Things like that have always made me shudder, but since I did the Proofreading/Editorial courses, they really spring out at me. This little lot just made me twitch; I had to go back and mark them. OCD, d'you think? *g*
