I honestly don't get it either. I understand getting fluttery and a bit excited, but the complete mental breakdowns and loss of motor control at the sight of a famous person? No.

My theory? It's because it's the *red carpet*. It's mythical, the red carpet. Anyone who is ON the red carpet MUST be important, right? They don't let ordinary schlubs like you and I on it, do they? No! So, they must have done/are something better than anything I've ever done!

It's so interesting. The idea of importance based on things like that.
