When I heard about the casting for Avatar, it made me think of the silent film era, when they would "slant" a White man's eyes and cast him as a Chinese man. Mainstream Hollywood really hasn't come very far, has it? This plus the Dragonball and Cowboy Bebop movies make me think the big studios really, really need to back away from the animated source material. They obviously don't get the material, they don't see what made it so successful in the first place, and they don't respect or honor the fan base. Of the movies out now, it's pretty obvious which ones were made by fans of the original material, and which where made by executives looking for the "next big thing."
