The hard drive in my 2 year old desktop died last night. My poor daughter is very sad that her mother has to borrow her laptop for the next week to ten days while I wait for my new SSD to arrive so I can install it and bring my computer back to life. I also have to wait for the CD with my OS to arrive and my new 32 inch tv that will be my monitor

Please tell me you had things backed up at least a dozen times? (Okay, half a dozen?) /only halfway joking
What IS it about hard drives and going kaput? If something goes on a computer of mine, it seems to be the hard drive, too. Hey, as you said, why not? If you have to get new parts anyway, time to spiffy up the whole system!
Do you have a USB mouse? That's what I use (since I use a laptop). I loathe touchpads, too. As for Windows 8, I'm praying my old faithful lasts until Windows 10 is out, so I can skip right over 8. Just looking at it makes me shudder. A PC IS NOT A SMARTPHONE, IDIOTS!
Anyway, may you get your new parts quicker than expected (and thusly your daughter can have her laptop back ;) ).

I did plug in my mouse but I keep finding myself using the stupid touch pad.
I am hoping my parts come faster than they said, it is a 'get it by' date rather than a specific delivery date and I did get a text that at least part of my order already shipped
