The gown of St. Elizabeth of Thuringia

I decided to try to cheer myself by writing a little bit about my portfolio work for the craft science as a minority subject. I'm actually quite proud of it, considering how little time I had to do it. Of course, I didn't get in, but that's quite alright since they only accept two students per year.

Sooo, I decided to do the gown of St. Elizabeth of ( Read more... )

It's beautiful. I love the narrow sleeve tops; even if the original doesn't have them there's plenty of pictorial examples.

Thanks. I wasn't worrying about doing a copy, so I drafted the pattern quite freely. However, I just love the outcome, and this became my favourite dress right away.

Do you do any kind of organized re-enactment? I'm not sure how much there is for the middle ages in Finland, except for the SCA, which I do know exist. (And if you do SCA, will you come to Sweden to an event?)

Quite a lot, actually. I've been part of an re-enactment group called Elävä Keskiaika for almost seven years (I think we've done some co-operation with Nordrike), but nowadays I don't attend those events that often. Some of my friends go to SCA's events, and I've been in one. SCA and Elävä Keskiaika are the biggest groups in Finland (EK has about 100 members, and SCA has more), but we also have several smaller groups with about 20 members that concentrate on different aspects of middle ages or iron age. Actually we are just establishing one with my friends. :)

I've been to Visby back in 2003 and loved it, but I've never had vocation/money to attend again. It would be, however, great to get to know your re-enactment scene a little better, and I've toyed with the idea of joining the SCA too. I've understod it's not compulsory to be a member to attend the events, but I suppose it would be easier, if I was ever to attend any foreign events.
