Are books dead?

Bookstores are closing. I love books, but they may be outdated. I have several hundred books, perhaps thousands. I am considering a serious reduction. How do you pick? Is print dead? Should I get rid of them all?

I, as you probably know, have thousands of books. I've been thinking about reducing as well, but it is difficult. I really love books. I love the way they feel when I'm holding them to read. I love the way books smell. I don't know if I can give them up, but they sure take up a lot of space.

Bite your tongue!

Books, in one form or another, have been around for a couple of thousand years; you really think that such a handy, portable, won't-die-in-water, easy-to-use, informational, easy-to-read-even-in-the-bathtub-or-on-the-toilet, you-never-ever-need-to-recharge-even-on-camping-trips device will disappear? Over my dead body!

I may have become something of a guru of book-weeding in the last several years. I did a major weed of my non-fiction when I was doing my main house re-org project back about 5 years ago. Where "major" only consisted of about 10% of the 2500 cataloged items. My main principles were to move out ( ... )

Nooooooooo! Books don't get corrupted when the power unexpectedly goes out and you never need to worry about system or version compatibility.
