They were following the trail for days. The slugs had told Connor that this was the way out. They had been tortured to get this information. But he believed they were still toying with him. Giving him just enough to escape. Then he would find them again, kill one or two, and torture the rest until he got more information.
The end of the trail resulted a split in it. Two possible directions to go. He looked at his father who was trying to figure out which way to go.
"We could split up," Connor suggested. The look he received made it clear that was not going to happen. There were not more slugs to torture. Nothing to tell them which way to go. Right or left? How were they supposed to decide?
He watched as his father continued to study both paths before finally looking at Connor. "Which way would you like to try?"
"You're letting me choose?" Connor was a bit surprised at that. It was a big decision. What if he got it wrong? His father was putting an awful lot of trust him in.
Angel smiled and said, "You're the expert tracker. I trust you."
Connor sniffed the air carefully. He took in all the scents and then pointed to the left side. "That way. I believe they went that way."
So they went left as well.
