Poor puppy

Sloan may have swallowed one, if not multiple chicken bones from the refuse of KFC garbage in the roommate's room. The door was open slightly when Wolfy went out earlier today and Sloanie got in there, rooted through the garbage, and we're not sure what was in the KFC containers. We're hoping that they were empty, but we don't know right now ( Read more... )

Ok, how is he acting? Is he gagging, coughing, or otherwise acting strangely?

Is roommate home yet? Can roommate be contacted to verify what was in the bucket? Dogs eat a lot of things...pitties are fairly resilient.
But keep an eye out for excessive drooling, coughing, blood in the saliva or in the feces, or any change of temperament.
If roommate says there were large bones in the bucket, call you vet and get better advice.
But I would call said roommate ASAP to get the info about what was in the KFC bucket.

Happy thoughts to the puppy!

Yes, apparently there were bones in the bucket, but I don't think they were large, more like chicken-wing sized. He hasn't acted odd, he's gone to the bathroom already, and none of the other symptoms have popped up. We're going to see how he does over the next couple of days and if he starts acting strange we'll take him to the vet.

...Also, our roommate will be strangled in his sleep. I know where he lives. *looks menacing*

Small bones shouldn't be too much of an issue. A dog with jaws his size should have been able to pulverize them easily into pieces unlikely to cause internal tearing.
But keep an eye out for any blood in his stool or in his saliva.
He should be OK, though.
Smack the roommate.

Smacking the roommate will be done. :-)

I'm worried more that he DID splinter the bones. It's better for him to get them out whole than to get them out in splinters that can cut him all up. He tends not to chew things either.

He seems to be fine at the moment, but if he can't poo we'll deffinately take him to the vet. I've been doing as much research as I can on the subject and they've all pretty much said the same thing. Also, we're not even sure if he ate them or not. But yes, if he looks out of sorts at all, we will go to the vet. There's no question about that.
