TITLE:
Empirical Evidence Regarding the Long-Term Effects of Academia and the Proximity of Homo mousa on the Human Psyche
ABSTRACT:
This case study reviews the long term effects of academic study and exposure to the creative force on the oh-so-breakable human brain. Lewis Black was right. It's dark in here.
INTRODUCTION:
It's finals week, or nearly so. You wanna know how I can tell? Easy.
RESULTS:
Because I do this every quarter.
Five Ways I Can Tell It's Finals Week:
1. Cass won't shut up. She does this every finals week, my muse. And also before papers are due. And right before midterms. I now have ideas for stories concerning: sin-eaters, demon banishment (this is totally making an appearance in Brothel!AU), the continuation of cultural misunderstandings in the Parsepolis 'verse (Demon, I should kill you for sending me E. Nomine - Cass has decided 90% of that CD is fight song music and I suck at action scenes. Very put out, here.), background and important plot points for Divine!AU (apparently it's very cold wherever they are), and more Perspectives 'verse stuff.
2. I have gone from not working all quarter to being scheduled all the time. Including during a final. Because it just wouldn't be working for the bookstore if they didn't do that.
3. My inner procrastinator starts clocking up the overtime. Paper? What paper? I totally have another four hours to turn it in. I don't have to start it yet. (I exaggerate, but I think a few more quarters here and that's what it'd be like. I would be the Worst. English. Major. Ever.)
4. I actually know people in my classes and occasionally talk to them. Which of course means I'll get to know them, decide they're interesting, and never see them again.
5. Did I mention the one where Cass doesn't shut up?
... I'm going to need some help. Seriously.
DISCUSSION:
Human psyche: 0
Muse + Academia: 1
Procrastination via creative writing, FTW!
...I'd be quilting, too, except for the part where I left the foot and power supply to my sewing machine at my parents. Oops.
EDIT: I totally just noticed that the little frog has a princess for "optimistic." I have to use this all the time now, it is hilarious.
Also, I may be somewhat seriously caffeinated on account of the paper-related sleep deprivation, which may explain bizarre word emphases and capitalization.
