Izzy smoothed her hair down. It had been a wild trip back at break neck speed, a blur of activity between getting the Daily Prophet and reading about Sebastian being hurt in the prison breakout, calling a friend to come down to Bora Bora and stay with Stella and coming back.
She'd almost missed his letter in all the excitement, reading it only increased her resolve. Enough was enough. She was going home and seeing him face to face and if he wanted to send her away then he would have to shut the door in her face.
Taking a deep breath, Izzy blew her bangs out of her face and stepped inside the private hospital room. The room was bright white and Sebastian... Izzy closed her eyes and let out a little relieved squeak. Bastian was alive, his dark hair sticking out every which way on his pillow. His eyes were closed as she approached the bed and sat in the chair beside him. She didn't want to wake him up, and contented herself with just watching him breathe. Talk, that could wait.
He wasn't in a deep sleep. He'd already slept deeply with the dreamless sleep potion the healers had insisted he take. Mostly to settle him down than to fight off nightmares.
Bastian had tried to sort out what had happened. All he knew was that he had seen Severus there. He'd been stabbed by his uncle to protect him. And that when the dust settled Pansy was dead.
Opening his eyes, he blinked in confusion when he saw her sitting there. "Never were one to follow directions."
A tiny smile touched her lips. "Thank goodness you didn't hurt your snarky bone." Lame come back, but she was tired and terrified and just so relieved to see his beautiful face she wasn't worried about what she was saying.
Izzy had left all her defenses back in the rubble of the Snake & Bird. "Stella's with a friend of mine, she's still in Bora Bora. She may never come back she's having such a good time."
She leaned forward and touched his arm. "I'll go back. I know that's what you want, for me and Stella to be safe, but I had to come home. I had to see you. What happened at Azkaban? How badly are you hurt? What did the Healers say? Do you need anything? What do you need?" The questions tumbled out one after the other and none of them were what she really wanted to say.
She took a deep breath. "You didn't let us down. You've never let us down when it really counted. I love you so much. Stella's not afraid at all and she would never be afraid of you."
"Amycus cut me across where the scar from the dark magic was. Said it was his way of keeping his word to his sister and Snape. He wanted me to stay down so I wouldn't get caught in the crossfire. Potter found me, turned my wand into a portkey and tricked me into taking it. Wound up here. Healers say I'll be fine. They replenished the blood, but the scar will remain."
He wasn't sure how to say the next part. He'd never approved of her friendship with Pansy, but he knew they were close. He'd rather she heard it from him than someone else.
Sebastian's hand found Iz's and he squeezed it. "Iz, I'm sorry...Pansy was one of the ones who didn't make it." The thing was, he was sorry, because she should have been protected in that cell. He'd heard them.
"They were coming for her. She was supposed to be taken alive. Someone either messed up, or they decided quickly was better than what was planned for her. I don't know, but I'm sorry. For whatever that is worth."
