Sewing my first unlined waistcoat. It turned out pretty well. Had to put a facing in front, but had juuuust enough fabric to get it. Also found enough extra to line the pocket flaps and make real pockets. Which I have to pin down by hand-tacking them to the outside ( Read more... )

Orange and red vertical stripes would be rad. Not really thick stripes, and not pinstripes (unless it was red pinstripes on orange or vice versa) but I was thinking more like the type of stripes that Seersucker fabric usually has. You know. like an 8th of an inch wide.

A jacket/skirt combo would look pretty cool.

With contrasting buttons. A solid color, like red, or black, or if you want to be really circus-ey, royal blue would be loud as hell.

colors are so fun!

I posted the almost-done dress on Facebook. I'd like to add green silk ruching to the cuffs & the same green silk as ribbon ties in front... like bows rather than XXX's.

Your idea for a dress is way-cool. But I'd do that for the 1870's. That would be perfect... an 1870 Walking dress (with bustle) in orange & red stripe with black buttons. Totally fabulous.

Yeah that's exactly the style I was thinking of, I think. Like a bustle dress with a sort of drapey bustle over a more narrow skirt? and a jacket with lapels and long sleeves, that is sort of tailored down the front and over the bustle?

Although, I like the idea of technicolor royal blue against that bright orange and red.
