"If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian"

This isn't a plea for you to become vegetarian.
This isn't about me making you feel bad about eating meat.
This is about me and my feelings and the fact that I just don't know what to do anymore.

I just watched Earthlings, which is like a 72 minute snuff movie about cruelty to animals. It was shocking. I'd seen a lot of the stuff before, but this ( Read more... )

It's hard. But it's good that people are starting to think more about what they're eating and where it's coming from. I can no longer defend the eating of meat (all the defences just fall apart) and so I'm going to try vegetarianism in the coming months. I'm starting to find irritation with people who don't want to talk about it because they're scared of what they might discover. No choice is a good choice if it's prejudicial and not well-informed ( ... )

Yay for vegetarianism! Happy!

"In every century there has been some form of injustice that the majority of the population don't see, but the more sensitive and educated do see. I read a quote about how eating meat will be seen in a few hundred years time as slavery is seen now. That made a lot of sense. "Yeah, that's exactly what Prof. Benatar was talking about - "moral blindness". He compares walking down a street of chicken restaurants and burger outlets to walking down a road seeing slave markets and shops with slaves in them etc ( ... )

You let people know how you feel, and then you leave it be. If they want to change, that's their choice. If not, you can't force them.

I personally think being vegan is going a bit extreme. Though there are arguments that vegan is still more humane than vegetarian, I'm fine being vegetarian. The thing about being vegan is you have to find protein supplements, like soya and tofu. Speak to a dietitian, he can tell you what foods to eat to keep a healthy diet.

Well, I think I've already made my arguments clear in a previous post... But I know how tricky it is - especially in res. People actually attack you at nearly every meal.

It was only this year that I realised just how much people don't care and just how common it is to each meat at every meal. I always thought it was natural to feel guilty and assumed everyone else did for eating meat, but it seems it isn't so. :(
