How well do you know each other? Hell, look at Joel and Paula. They met at a party and then started dating. They knew each other as nothing other than a significant other and they stayed together for 8 months. The only reason they broke up was cuz they were both going off to college. I say go for it, but if you think you don't know him well enough yet, then get to know him more and then go for it.

here's my two cents, for what its worth (probably about $0.02).
Honestly I think you should hang out with the guy a bit, maybe hook up with him, "try him on", if you will. Going out shouldn't be an excuse to act a certain way around people, yet all too often it is. Act how you feel naturally around him, and don't force yourself into a relationship just yet. Well that's how I see it, anyway.
Oh and by the way I'm ready and willing to get to know Rachel better. :)

im not exactly sure the situation, but im still gonna weigh in (feel free to call if u want to inform me exactly). OK usually when a guy just starts saying that they're going out with someone when ther havent actually,one of two things have happened. First, they had a conversation with you that went somewhere along the lines of them asking you out and they mis-enterpreted (its happened to me dont gimmy that look:-P). Or secong, he's a creepazoid and you should probably stay away from him. i mean really who just makes stuff like that up. aslo, did u hook up w/ him? some people will just make assumptions after such things go on. or it could just be a weird new way of asking people out that ive never heard of before...naw.
