Even though I was never a fan of Tokyo Jihen, I was resistant to the idea of an album where Shiina didn't write any of the songs. I thought it would be even worse. Turns out I was exactly wrong... I think she was overworked and so her song quality was suffering as a result, and letting the guys do the songwriting produced an awesome album! I have friends who insist Adult is amazing, but it bores me to tears. I love Variety!

And Distance was the first Japanese album I owned :D

I completely agree. Save for a few songs, Adult isn't very memorable and in part unlistenable. When I listened to Variety for the first time I was surprised at how I didn't even have an urge to skip songs. They just blended so well together. And "Kingyo no Hako" is such a good song. I can't get over it.

I'd had Distance for a while but I only really listened to her singles. But that album has really grown on me.
