01. What is your favorite (section of a) Latin poem, and why?
From my translated copy, one section I really like is from book one of Ovid's Ars Amatoria, where he states:
You too, so keen to establish some long-term relationship,
Must learn, first, where girl is to be found
Your search need not take you - believe me - on an overseas voyage:
A short enough trek will bring you to your goal.
True, Perseus fetched home some Andromeda from the coloured Indies,
While Phrygian Paris abducted Helen in Greece,
But Rome can boast so many and such dazzling beauties,
You'd swear the whole world's talent was gathered here.
I really like it because Ovid tells of how you don't need to go else where to find somewhere pretty and awesome. It also shows how much he liked Rome, which makes it even sadder when you know he got exiled to near the Pontus sea. :(
I also really like a section from book 3, section 5 of Amores, partly because I'm translating it now, where he talkes about a "dazzling white" (candida, which is now one of my favorite Latin words) cow. I love how the Latin is laid out and the imagery he uses. Ovid is my love.
02. What about Japanese oldies is so appealing to you?
First, I really like how good the songs were back then, and so much good music. Also, take Chiyo Okumura, the sound of the songs and the tone of her voice is so unique and her style is sassy and glamorous. But I also like seeing trends from then and now, seeing what people liked and idolized back then. Also seeing how music has evolved is fun to see. Awesome. <3
03. If you could only have five CDs, what would they be?
Oh goodness. Just taking from my own CD collection as it's be too hard to add in all the artists in my mum's and sister's CDs. Oh and just Japanese, because then I'd need Baby VOX, The Smiths, The Supremes and Faye Wong in there... etc. :x
1. MALICE MIZER - Voyage
2. Namie Amuro - 181920
3. Momoe Yamaguchi - Dramatic
4. Ringo Shiina - Muzai Moratoriam
5. Chiyo Okumura - Coquettish BOMB
It's even hard to decide on just those. It's really sad that I can't choose just 5.
04. How and when did you get into foreign music?
Back in the middle of 2001, near the end of my short anime obsession, I really liked the Cowboy Bebob soundtrack and the theme song to Evangelion, and BoA's Lain theme song. And it grew from there. I think it was
natsukigirl who originally sent me my first Jpop song, Judy and Mary's "Kujira No. 12" December 2001, which started me into the world of Japanese popular music.
05. What is your favorite breakfast?
I'm such a big fan of breakfast food. I really like Sasuage, egg and cheese sandwiches. :x
But recently I've been on a plain bagel with plain cream cheese kick. Or a mixture of cereals (mostly a bit of each: apple cinnamon cheerios, honey smacks and frosted mini wheats) and waffles with blackberry jam. Overall, thumbs up for breakfast foods.
Speaking of Chiyo Okumura, Sakamoto sensei asked me today about what music I'm listening to nowadays. And I, who goes absolutely giddy when someone asks me about the music I like (especially if there was a chance they would know some of the artists I like) excitedly replied "Chiyo Okumura!", and she was like "whaaaaaa?! that's old!". And she asked me how I find about these artists. And I mentioned Kyu Sakamoto, and she started singing "Ue o Muite Arukou", and told me about how she rode on a plane the daye after his plane crashed, and how her parents were freaking out about it. Hehehe.
Also when we were learning about how "aoi" can mean innocent/not yet grown, she started singing the "ku ku ku ku" bit of Junko Sakurada's "Watashi no Aoi Tori" and I joined in with "aoi tori". Haha, awesome. Sakamoto sensei is my favorite. <3
Buuuut, I have a midterm in the nihongos tomorrow. しんぱい! :\
