What do you do when you're too tired & mopey to focus on writing that paper for school? .... Apparently the answer is poke around my basement looking for my box of old VHS tapes & a yoga video

I can paddle a boat, canoe?

I have a Sevylor inflatable 2 person (it says kayak, but really it is more like a) canoe. A good flat water place to practice is Benson Lake by Multnomah Falls. I took my kid there a few summers ago. Since there is no current, it is an easy paddle. There are other lakes around of course, but for practicing paddling, that would be a good bet. Then once you have your arms ready, there are places all along Sauvie Island.
