Sorry about your situation. When I was a kid my Dad's company sponsored a funny car and we use to go out and watch it. We got to be in the pits and everything. While I realized that was cool and special it just wasn't my thing. It sounds as if you need to develop some NHRA girlfriends (just like you've developed HP friends). Don't take it personally, even if we don't love race cars we love YOU!
