I completely agree with you. While gun-control may be a good idea in theory, the application of it in our society is seriously lacking. The fact that there is and always will be a black market for illegal goods and substances means that law-abiding citizens will always have a need to protect themselves.
And yes, Virginia's laws and regulations are a little out of focus. I found out that Virginia isn't actually a state, but a Commonwealth. I know this because one of my massage school classmates was planning on moving there and they couldn't give her a straight answer on what training she needed to have because they don't accept the national certification standards. They have their own rules and no reciprocity agreements with any other state. Basically she was told, "It doesn't matter how much schooling you've had, you have to do it all here or it doesn't count." I do know she moved there (her hubby was an army recruiter) but I don't think she's working as an MT. Sad, really, that they've regulated themselves into a tight spot.
