Long Time No Post

Meh... That's pretty much me and writing lately. I've done a little but I'm in a bit of a--I can't think of a word to describe it--you know one of those times when nothing you write comes out like you'd hoped it would. The fact that I cannot even come up with a word to describe what this is, is an indication of how it is. And the fact that my ( Read more... )

Hey, you have our support on kicking the block. We enjoy your work.

Too bad about the dude. I was born in and grew up a bit in Japan. I've also been hosted the same way in high school and have been back for work. Every time I go, my hosts are amazingly fastidious. For their son to have been a slob in your home is a major loss of face. In traditional Japanese culture, that's worse than death.

I once hosted some high-ranking Japanese AF officials and they are all about protocol. They took unbelieveable care of me too.

That's so true about traveling all that way for...what??? You have to do and see what is unique to the place. When I went to Tahiti, a friend orders a hamburger while I'm trying crepes, wine, something called Poisson-Cru. Very good btw. I learned all about the double cheek kiss.

Oyasuminasai. (good night)

I know that he was totally the exception rather than the rule. I met most of the other students and they were really polite, funny, and friendly. I also talked to some other host families and they had great experiences with their Japanese students. We tried our best but eventually we just backed off. Oh well!

I'm SO not a big fan of house guests. I get ultra snottyprotective about my space. We had a gal stay with us "for a week" while she looked for a place to live by the university she was going to attend. One week turned in to one month. And the best part? She was friend of my husband's ex-wife!! It was like housing the enemy personnell in right in our own base? Madness.

Ben Franklin once said, "Fish and visitors stink in 3 days." So true. I can deal with family, mostly, but people you don't/hardly know...especially when their really rude or in your case aligned with the Dark Side that's a no-go for me from now on.
