Read "Foucault's Pendulum" by Umberto Eco instead. It covers the same ground, and has the additional merit of not sucking, though it's admittedly tough sledding for the first hundred pages or so.

I've read it; it kicks ass. Stretching things farther in that direction, ever read the Invisibles by Grant Morrison? Comic book, but easily one of the best fiction novels of the last twenty years or so.

I just bought one of the TPBs on a whim last month (Entropy in the UK) and enjoyed it immensely.
