Maybe I should have explained what "The Great Transit" is. Or was- it's over now. The Great Transit is the enormous trip we've just completed, starting from Canberra on Thursday at lunchtime and finishing now, in Vilafranca (just South of Barcelona) today- Sunday night. Or Monday morning, if you're in Australia.
This part of our trip has involved lots of travel, very few showers and a lot of sitting around listening to bad music. But we have finally arrived in a real house, with a shower you don't have to pay a ridiculous price to use and (best of all) an acutal bed! Just for us! In one room! With no complete strangers in it too! We haven't slept in an actual bed for three nights now, so that'll be quite a novel experience.
We had a great time in Paris yesterday. I forgot to mention that we ate the most wonderful crepe, with grand marnier, which we bought off a little old lady who knew no English but understood Spanish just fine. Sooooo goooood...
Oscar was very impressed by Notre Dame, although dissapointed that cimbing the tower would have been both expensive and time-consuming, given the enormous queue. I liked Paris a lot more than last time too, which probably has a lot to do with just doing as I want instead of going on a tour.
After walking a long way to the train station, we got on board our train for Barcelona. The trip was pretty uneventful, except for a picnic I had on the floor of the train set up on a lovely big cloth napkin I stole from the unattended dining carriage at 4am. Sometimes the deliciousness is worth the eccentricity.
We arrived in Barcelona this morning and spent most of the day with Enric and Gemma, Oscar's second cousin and his ex, who we met in Australia a few years ago. I guess I'll have to post later about what Barcelona is like- it would take too long to describe the narrow streets and cool cafes and amazing crumbling but beautiful architecture and everything else tonight.
For now, we're at the apartment of Oscar's godmother Nuria, hanging out with she and her family. And we're both very tired, but having a fantastic time. More about Barcelona next time- I have to go and drink some kind of beer that somehow involves apples (?).
Photos later too- the batteries for our camera are out and we need to buy an adaptor. Eep.
