Looking for footage on Japanese Host Clubs

Nov 04, 2010 12:40

Ok for my documentary-writing unit this semester I've decided to focus on Japanese Host Clubs.. does anyone know where I can access videos for research and get a better idea of how they work, etc?

Thanks!!

Look for the documentary of THE GREAT HAPPINESS SPACE - TALES OF THE OSAKA LOVE THIEF -

it's all about host clubs, how they work and who they work for, great documentary~

I can tell you a bit about how they work, but I'm no expert. And I mainly know how to abuse the system. Ha.

However, if you can find the book 'Speed Tribes: Life and Times of Japan's next Generation' then that has a whole write up on hostesses (and shit loads more; amazing book!!!). Host clubs are no different. If not the book 'Tokyo Hostess' is also really good. Again, all about hostessing, but the same rules and hierarchy exists.

Thanks for that, I'll try to get a hold of the book.. you could go ahead and tell me if you'd like, I wouldn't mind hearing peoples experiences and whatnot XD

Both books are really good. Speed Tribes covers a lot more than just hostesses and isn't as informative as Tokyo Hostess, but it is still an amazing read. Really good if you are interested in other parts of Japan's youth and subcultures ( ... )
