Oh no you totally did not just put Tolkien and Meyer into the same category! You have to admit at least Tolkien put an effort into being creative and intelligent. The only big word Stephenie Meyer used was 'chagrin', and I think it's the only big word she knows, as she threw it in there on average about once every sentence. Mostly out of context.
Semi-agree with you about Zusak... I just finished it, and while the plot itself was quite beautiful, I kind of wanted to punch him in the eye a few times. Pretentious wanker. It was a very sweet book but... sort of a bit stupid as well.
I can hear Kaleah resigning our friendship now. :P
Ok. I will admit that Tolkien is one step above Meyers, if only because his use of the English language doesn't make me want to punch a baby seal. AND THAT IS THE ONLY CONCESSION I WILL MAKE FOR J.R.R SO ENJOY IT.
Oh god, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who didn't fawn all over Zusak. After I posted the meme I went back and flicked through The Book Thief, and it was more awful than I remembered. Making Death the narrator isn't wonderfully postmodern, Marcus, it's just contrived and badly done. /endrant/
From memory Pat and Lisa quite like Zusak too, so there goes more of our friendlists. =]
but i like the messenger better than the book thief, so we're all cool ;) and also LOVE FOR RICHARD'S BOOKSHOP!!!! that's where i bought the magic faraway tree :) lion, witch and wardrobe wasn't worst film adaptation because you're selfish bec, it was worst coz it was terrible. also, good work with the tolkien rant :)
