Well, let's take it as the full £250 million.

There are around 60 million people in the UK.

That's 8p per person per week for a fairer voting system. Or the cost of one pint of beer per year.

You know, I'd give up a pint of beer if I thought my vote was actually going to count.

Excellent point, well made! I had thought of pointing that out, but thought I would tackle the No campaign's claims directly.

£250m is actually a smallish amount of money, in terms of the national budget. Stuff like the NHS and the education system (not even whispering about the budget monoliths that are the armed forces and the benefit system) cost billions, plural.

And those are annual budgets. General Elections are held every five years.

Also, whats the average cost for getting any new law implemented? That'll be an interesting figure to compare...

I find the notion that we can't afford a different system of electing MP's a bit distrubing, to be honest. As if there's a shop for electoral fairness, and you have to save up for the really good systems, but you can have a totalitarian system for 36p and a packet of crisps. Or something.

Heh. Maybe we can get part-exchange on FPTP if another country's looking for one.
