Bureaucracy is doing my head in

I got a call from from the nurse at the kids new school to say that there's a problem with my 5 year old's immunisation.  In Texas the MMR vaccine has to be given when a child is 12 months or older, and they have a four day grace period, so you could get it done no earlier than four days before the first birthday.  In Aus there is a two week grace ( Read more... )

I hear ya, honey. I hated every single shot we had to give Mo Chuisle. She'd go to the docs fine, leave with a fever that lasted 3 days.

I'm sorry you have to redo this. Stupid red tape.

I'm just not happy about my son having more than the usual amount of MMR running through his system. I flat out don't want to get it done. I just have to weigh up the repercussions if I go with that decision.

If he's had the required dosages, it seems so over the top to make him go through it again. Seriously not even giving them proof of the immunisation makes a diffence?... *shakes head* Are they sure it's not dangerous to put more into his system, his body would have changed so much since then...

That was my concern as well, that he was going to be over-immunised and have more than the usual amount of MMR in his system. My Mum's a nurse so I checked with her if there was any danger in getting it done and she said no, it was just unnecessary.

I don't know if I'm going to get it done or not. I'll be opening a very large can of worms if I don't.

Well that's just freaking stupid....and totally unbelievable...

I personally would say 'Stuff it' and not get it done, but what kinda repercussions we talking about?

Slap on the hand, or "Quick, get me a forged passport asap"?

pmsl! I don't think it's a run to TJ type of repercussion. It seems to be more about exclusion from school (which Luke would be thrilled with).

I think I've decided not to get it done, lodge a request for an exemption form and see what happens.

That is insane. They want him re-immunised for the sake of four days? If he hadn't been immunised at all, I can see thier point, but to exclude a child because he was immunised four days early is ridiculous.

I agree with immunisations, but I can totally see why you don't want it done again (and he shouldn't have to have it done again).

Good luck with the exemption request.

I ended up getting the immunisation done. School starts on Monday and if it wasn't done the school wouldn't let Luke attend. There just wasn't enough time to get the necessary exemption paperwork done.

Certainly left a bitter taste in my mouth.
