Right. If you've read LM Alcott's Little Women series, should Jo have ( Read more... )

If the Internet had been around then there would been 'Jaurie' fans everywhere!

In the book Jo's Boys we see Jo and Laurie have a lot of fun writing a play together, which isn't something they'd do with their spouses. Which kinda makes me wish they had married. See? They could have been good together!

Alcott was single herself, but the pressure back then was to marry off her heroine. I think one of her minor characters, Nan, was her way of dealing with that. Nan was very pretty and popular, but refused to marry so she could become a doctor.

Nan is very cool, she only shows up in the sequels. A feisty little girl who grows up to become a feisty feminist, refusing her own childhood sweetheart, Tommy, because of her ambition and because she doesn't love him that way. He falls for another girl, a la Laurie.

I suppose Amy/Laurie shippers would call it 'Lamy'! Jo/Professor fans could be 'JoPro'.

i always thought that jo would kick laurie up one side and down the next if they had married. she was way too much for him to handle, soft sweet demure iron gloved amy is a much better partner..... as for their writing together again not many married couples succeed at togetherness in business ( and the ones that do, do it so well people think its effortless.)

Heh, iron-gloved is a good way of putting it! True, Jo was awfully fond of playing 'mentor' to Laurie, fun when friends but would probably have driven him nuts if she was his wife. It was more the other way round with the Professor.

Laurie and she were friends and she never loved him in a bf way. She only weakened in thought towards him when everyone had left her alone. I like to think they still had laughs as SIL and BIL.

I like to think so too. It's surprising how many bloggers go on and on about Amy 'stealing' Laurie (she didn't, Jo never wanted him!) It's hard to let go of an OTP, that's for sure.

C. Initially I might have said B, but I don't think it would have worked. They're better as friends.

Friendship was the most important part of their relationship, and they got to keep it. :)
