THIS OR THAT
Optimistic or pessimistic?: It really just depends. I’m pessimistic about little things and when I’m in a bad mood, but if somebody else is in a bad mood and being pessimistic I tend to be the optimist. I’m also an optimistic idealist in that I think big things like world peace are attainable.
Leader or follower?: Even though I’m extremely shy, I’m more of a leader. I don’t have anything against following and have no problem taking direction, but it’s in my nature to want to have some level of control in most things.
Introvert or extrovert?: Introvert, no question. Like I said,I’m painfully shy and anxious, and it’s no fun. Disregarding that however, I’m just a lover of my alone time when I get a chance to be by myself and think. I enjoy being with my friends and family, but often times I’d much rather be alone.
Mature or immature?: Mature. I’ve been a little adult probably since the day I was born. A friend of mine once put it in a slightly less kind way and dubbed me a “fun-sucker.”
Loud or quiet?: Again, very quiet. Being loud is just not in my DNA.
Selfish or altruistic?: I try to be very altruistic. I do care about others very much, but I am human (and a teenager), so there are often occasions when I relapse into a selfish kid. Lol, I’m trying to get a handle on those.
Rude or polite?: I usually make a concerted effort to be very polite and kind in general, but there are times when my timidity gets the best of me, and I can’t even bring myself to look somebody in the eye if I see them in a hallway or on the street or something. I’m sure they think that very rude, and I don’t blame them. However, it isn’t intended to be. I never set out to be rude; that much I can say.
Traits, etc.
What do you consider to be your one very best trait and why?: My best trait… I would say intelligence because I pride myself on that very much, but I think my very best trait is probably my habit of giving people a fair shake and looking for the best in them. I am young enough to still believe that there is some good in everybody; consequently, I try very hard not to judge people and to understand where they’re coming from no matter how unpleasant they may seem.
And what do you think is your worst?: Cowardice is probably one of my worst traits especially as far as it ties into my best trait as well as my timidity. Even if I’m willing to look for the good in people and treat them as I would like to be treated, I’m rarely able to stand up for them in a group of my peers. At home if somebody’s being bad-mouthed, I won’t hesitate to stand up for them, but outside of my comfort zone I let my fear get the better, and I don’t do the right thing by standing up for people. I let them be verbally abused, slandered, etc… because I’m too afraid to speak up and stop it.
If you could change one thing about yourself or your life, what would it be?: I’d want to be rid of my anxiety and shyness. They hold me back in so many areas of my life, and I would be a million times better off without them.
What element do you most identify with and why?: I’m really not sure. I’m a mixture of water, earth, and a little air, but I can pretty safely say I’m not very fiery.
Jane Austen
Which Jane Austen heroine is your least favorite and why?: Ummm, it’s a toss up between Emma Woodhouse and Fanny Price, depending on which book I’m reading at the time. Emma’s just too full of herself and Fanny’s… I don’t know, kind of mousy and boring.
Which Jane Austen book is your favorite and why?: Probably Northanger Abbey because it had a different flavor than the rest of Jane Austen’s novels. It was lighter and seemed, to me, satirical while still being just plain funny. Besides, Catherine was sweet and endearing, and Henry is one of my favorite heroes!
Which 1-3 Jane Austen/ Jane Austen inspired movies are your favorite and why?: Well this is difficult…
- Becoming Jane- The heroine is Jane Austen, so I suppose it’s Jane Austen inspired! I know it’s not exactly what one would call faithful to her life, but it seems like a story Jane would write, except for the fact that the ending isn’t happy. It’s still extremely romantic, and the chemistry between Anne Hathaway and James McAvoy is fantastic.
- Sense and Sensibility (95)- Sense and Sensibility was one of the first Austen novels I ever read, and I loved Elinor’s character because I really felt like I could relate to her. Naturally, I was excited when I first saw the movie and I really was swept away in the Elinor/Edward romance. They were such a sweet couple, and I sighed so much over the scene where Edward came into the cottage to tell Elinor that he was a free man and that he loved her.
- Northanger Abbey (07)- I loved the way it was set up like a fairytale with the narrator in the beginning and end. The actor who played Tilney was fantastic in my opinion, just as I pictured Henry in the book, and the scene where Henry and Catherine first kiss was just plain adorable.
Favorite Jane Austen couple and why?: I’ve never really thought about it before. I guess my favorite couple is Elinor and Edward. I can’t really say why. Maybe because they played by the rules, honoring them, even while knowing that they were very much in love with one another, and still got what they wanted in the end. Almost like the opposite of the nice guy finishing last. ;)
Anything else you would like to add?: Just that I apologize for giving you so much to read, and I’m so glad that there is another Jane Austen stamping community! I can’t get enough of them! Also, I don't know why this post is coming out in such an annoying format. Sorry if it causes any frustration as far as reading goes! I'd be glad to fix it if anybody knows how. EDIT: I guess the app fixed itself... lol Oh the wonders of technology.
