Peripherals and books

The new keyboard is nice, but sometimes I occasionally put my right hand on the keys left of the ones I'm going for. It's the ergonomics of it... curved, and the keys in the middle take up slightly more realestate, which I guess makes sense given the few HCI principles I've learnt. The mouse (or rather the software that came with it) has a ( Read more... )

You wanna talk screwy keyboards? A few years ago I switched to wireless and opted for the MS Intellitype/Intellimouse combo.

The F1-F12 keys are in four groups of three, not three groups of four like most keyboards.

That little block of keys above the arrows with home, end, page up, page down, insert and delete is reoriented. Insert is gone. Home and End are the top two keys. Delete is twice as long as a normal key, and page up/down are to the right of it.

The worst part of all, though, is the F Lock. By default, the function keys don't act like function keys. When you hit F4, it's not F4. It's "Open" which obviously doesn't do anything if you're in an application that doesn't support the keyboard and that command. It wouldn't be too bad if I could always leave the F lock on, but print screen and insert are combined into a button too, so any time I need to take a screenshot I need to turn off F lock.

Yes, being a New Zealand, I'm quite concerned about Flocks being on my keyboards.
Yours does sound rather messed up, I'm gonna guess they canned those revisions... though the F lock and its assorted things remain, though with a bit more sense behind what's what...

I cannot use ergonomic keyboards. They annoy me and slow me down because they mess up my tactile memory. It would be the same if you tried to make me play on a curved piano, my fingers get confused.

My biggest gripe is that my old fashioned typing teacher made me learn to type the number 6 with my right hand but it is on the left hand side of an ergonomic curve which makes me look pretty ridiculous whenever I happen across a six or try to type ^_^ with one hand.

Hey, it is slightly on the left side of the curve...
