Guess this had to take its time

I've had a lot of conflicting feelings about losing weight before. I've *thought* about the benefits of weighing less. I've seen how I'm starting to get some of the warning signs of If I Don't Do Something About It. I also know how much I hate to exercise, how I stubbornly *feel* that eating healthy should be enough, and how I have some safety ( Read more... )

My metabolism got a huge kickstart when I did that 3-week cleanse last year. It took a bit of planning to make sure I always had something tasty to eat that adhered to the guidelines, but I lost 15 pounds and haven't ever gained it back.

Can you point me back to those posts so I can see what you did?

Here ya go: http://scorpionis.livejournal.com/752200.html

I highly recommend the Whole Foods recipe site. They have a very refined search engine that will let you select *only* recipes that adhere to even those strict guidelines. I was a big fan of the orange roughy with strawberry-mango salsa.

If you do liposuction -- before you do, please talk to me. I had it done as part of my tummy tuck, and I want to share with you the worst part about it before you actually do it, so that if that same thing happens to you, it's not a surprise. (You should probably talk to a couple of other people who have done it, as well.)

I've lost a lot of weight following the South Beach Diet - it's a low-carb style diet that eventually re-adds whole grains and things like that. I'm down about 50 pounds now over the course of a few months. Exercise has helped, but simply changing my eating habits has gotten me most of the way there.

I've done it before, and I follow the basic gist of it already: more lean protein and veggies, cut the sugar/white flour/white rice addiction and then be reasonable about it.
Congratulations for being healthier. :)

Thanks! I was surprised to learn the different foods that I wouldn't be able to eat on the first part of the diet. If you're going to consider doing it, you may want to look at a food list. Cutting out sugar is also a big part of things.

Also, I'm sure you know but being thinner doesn't necessarily equate to being healthier. I hope I'm becoming both.

I'm definitely not married to any number, as long as it's under 200, because I can be sure that 199 is too heavy for a 5'5" person, Scottish/German build or not. But I might get to 185-190 and think I look good. Or it might be 160. Who knows? I will when I get there. :)

Definitely I want to work yoga into there. I hate being hot, though. :)

I know I'm beating a dead horse since I mention it as some near panacea but in this instance it's due to cardio. It's yoga, all the usual benefits but bikram helps cleanse your internal organs and digestion improves. The cardio that occurs helps burn additional calories. Even if you can't do all of the poses, you work at it and still get a good cardio workout without stressing your joints as you would with running or other kinds of exercise.
